Around the shops in St Marks Square's arcades.

Venetian glass comes from the island of Moreno within the Venice Lagoon.

The glass makers were banished there in the days when buildings were of all wood construction as the glass furnaces kept causing fires.
Tax concessions were given to the glass makers who had to move away from their homes.

There were no floods and the canals did not smell - two things we had all been wary of.

The stalls had lots of Carnival masks. Apparently the long nosed variant was for storing perfume in the nose so the wearer could not smell the canals!
The Doges Palace was the palace of the ruling family of Venice..
